June 9, 2009: Deadline Extended to July 1, 2009: PACC/NYCC Consortium Funding Alert. The deadline for the RFP of Student Leadership Programs and Regional Network Planning has been extended until July 1, 2009.  See details from May 19, 2009 below for more information.

May 19, 2009: PACC/NYCC Consortium Funding Alert. The PA/NY Campus Compact Consortium is pleased to announce the availability of two Request for Proposals (RFP) through our 2009-2012 Learn & Serve grant initiative. Opportunities for support are available for student leadership programs and for regional network planning. Applications may be submitted for each area. Funding is contingent upon a successful application to Learn & Serve America--Higher Education through the Corporation of National and Community Service by the PACC/NYCC Consortium. We expect to have a decision by mid-June, for project activities to commence this fall. We are initiating the RFP process now, however, with a June 22nd deadline (deadline extended to July 1, 2009) for subgrantees' proposals, to permit subgrantees sufficient time to secure institutional and community commitments and to establish project plans.

The RFP titled “Student Leadership Programs” focuses on student-led or student-initiated service and service-learning opportunities. The RFP titled “Regional Network Planning" focuses on development of regional networks.

Deadline for submitting proposals is June 22, 2009 at 4:00pm. (deadline extended to July 1, 2009)

April 8, 2009:  Scholarship of Engagement Institute, May 20, 2009 at Bucknell University-POSTPONED!

The Scholarship of Engagement captures scholarship in the areas of teaching, research, and/or service and engages faculty in academically relevant work that simultaneously meets campus mission/goals and community needs. This event has been postponed until Fall 2009.

March 3, 2009: Frank Newman Student Leadership Award

The Frank Newman Leadership Award provides financial support and mentorship to assist students with financial need and civic leadership potential to help them achieve their academic and civic goals. Two $5,000 awards are available to undergraduate students at Campus Compact member colleges and universities. The Frank Newman Leadership Award honors the unique legacy of Frank Newman, co-founder of Campus Compact, by recognizing presidential leadership for civic engagement and exceptional students who have shown potential for civic leadership through community service and scholastic achievement. February 19, 2009: Service-Learning in the Health Sciences Symposium-Register Now! 

Through funding from the PACC/NYCC Consortium Learn & Serve grant, a one-day symposium on service-learning in the Health Sciences will take place in Erie, PA on April 25, 2009. The symposium is an interdisciplinary service-learning symposium and is for faculty in the health sciences and will feature workshops in service-learning and course revision. Speaker highlights include Chuck Connor from the board of directors of Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH) and the West Virginia Rural Health Education Partnership as the keynote, and Char Gray, Executive Director of Pennsylvania Campus Compact. Participants will receive a $25 stipend, and a copy of CCPH’s Faculty Toolkit for Service-Learning in Higher Education.  Registration is limited to 40 participants on a first come-first served basis with an April 8th final deadline.  The symposium will be offered to faculty in PA, NY, OH and WV.  An electronic registration form is available here. Contact Michele Schroeck, RSM for more information, mschroeck@mercyhurst.edu, 814-824-2471.

 

Febryary 11 , 2009:  PACC's Assessment Institute to be held at Alvernia University on March 27, 2009

This PACC-sponsored practical, hands-on institute focuses on assessment of service-learning for faculty, students, community partners, and institutions through workshops. It will also address assessment design and planning, data collection tools and management. PACC encourages institutions to bring teams (max. 4 per school) consisting of faculty, professionals from community service/ service-learning, institutional research or IT.   Click here for more information.  Click here for the registration form only.  

January 20, 2009: Survey on Carnegie Classification Workshops

Pennsylvania and New York Campus Compacts will jointly host two events to help member institutions prepare the required documentation for Carnegie Community Engagement designation for 2010.  To assist in our planning process, and to make this event most useful to you, would you please complete the following brief survey by February 1st.  Institutions that have already received the classification should also complete the survey.  It should take about two minutes. January 16, 2009: Campus Compact National Awards Applications Available.

Campus Compact is pleased to announce the availability of the online applications for the Thomas Ehrlich Civically Engaged Faculty Award (for senior faculty) and the Frank Newman Leadership Award (for students).  These awards offer an opportunity for national recognition for exceptional work in civic and community engagement.  More information is available at Campus Compact.

January 16, 2009: Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagment

Junior faculty are encouraged to apply for the Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement, from the New England Resource Center for Higher Education. More information is availabe at NERCHE.

January 16, 2009: Community College National Center for Community Engagement Awards.

Awards available to celebrate outstanding campus-based service-learning and civic engagement programs that have developed partnerships outside their institutions. The Center seeks nominations for the following awards: Collaborations with Social Agencies; Collaborations with Business and Industry; Collaborations with K-12 Schools; Collaborations with Universities;  International Service Learning. December 18, 2008: Carnegie Foundation Recognizes Institutions for Community Engagement.

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching announces the 2008 Community Engagement Classification. One hundred and nineteen (119) institutions were successfully classified . PACC congratulates all of the recipients. PACC member receiving this recognition are: Alvernia University, Cabrini College, Drexel University, Duquesne University, Messiah College, Northampton Community College, Swarthmore College, University of Scranton, and Villanova University. September 18, 2008: PACC/NYCC Learn & Serve RFP Available--Convening Academic Discipline Networks

The PA/NY Campus Compact Consortium is pleased to announce the availability of the Request for Proposals (RFP) through our Learn & Serve grant initiative. This RFP titled “Convening Academic Discipline Networks” focuses on faculty-driven projects in the disciplines related to service-learning. September 15, 2008:  Apply Today for the 2008 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is an annual federal recognition program for institutions of higher education that supported meaningful student community service during the 2007-2008 academic year. Applications are now being accepted at www.nationalservice.gov/honorroll. DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 23, 2008.

Applications will be reviewed based on the scope, innovation and impact of the college's service and civic engagement activities. Presidential Awards will be presented to institutions demonstrating excellence in Community Service in many areas as well as for this year's special focus: tutoring, mentoring and other services to youth from disadvantaged circumstances designed to promote high school completion and college readiness.

Winners of the 2008 Presidential Awards will be announced at the annual meeting of the American Council on Education (ACE) on February 9, 2008 in Washington, DC.

August 20, 2008: MLK Day Mini-Grants Available

PACC is pleased to partner with North Carolina Campus Compact and the Corporation for National Service in providing mini-grants to its campuses for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2009. Campuses will be encouraged to implement the MLK Challenge Model, developed by Appalachian State University in 2000. Information about the Challenge Model can be found in the mini-grant application and the MLK Challenge Toolkit.

PACC will award $250 each to seven (7) member campuses to support MLK Day events and service activities. Each campus that receives a grant will be expected to recruit 75 student and community volunteers, partner with at least two community organizations, and connect their service to the life and work of Dr. King through education, reflection, and celebration activities.

Mini-grant applications are due to PACC no later than 5pm on September 15th. Applications can be submitted via email, but must be followed by an official paper copy with your signature. August 14, 2008: Announcing the new Campus Compact Leadership Award for Campus and Community Engagement

Campus Compact has created the Leadership Award for Campus and Community Engagement to highlight the critical and valuable role of the community engagement professional in higher education. These dedicated individuals form a vital link between the community and campus, they are central to realizing the vision of the engaged campus, and integral in the education and development of students. The tremendous growth of the field is due in large part to the dedication and hard work of the community engagement professional.

This award will honor an individual whose work embodies the vision and value of the engaged campus. The objective of this award is to recognize the work of a community engagement professional who advances her/his campus's civic vision and the field by creating and/or coordinating high-quality campus and community engagement initiatives, contributing significantly to the development and sustainability of strong, reciprocal partnerships between higher education and communities, and fostering a deep culture of engagement on their campus.

Augsust 14, 2008: PennSERVE message

PennSERVE is the state agency for community service, volunteerism and service-learning in the Commonwealth, and administers the AmeriCorps State National Service program with funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Each year, PennSERVE is responsible for submitting to CNCS a strategic plan which outlines our state's broad goals for enhancing the landscape of service. The current strategic plan can be found at the PennSERVE website www.pennserve.state.pa.us via a link on the homepage.

In order to make this Plan more inclusive, and representative of the multitudes of programs operating in Pennsylvania, we solicit your input. To what extent does your program or project currently align with the goals set forth in the Pennsylvania State Service Plan? What suggestions, ideas or recommendations do you have to encourage such alignment in the future?

As you can see, (VCP/PACC/PDE/CNCS State Office) is a partner with PennSERVE in the designing of this plan. As a key stakeholder, your input is important to us, and we hope to receive information and updates from you on an ongoing basis. We appreciate your assistance as we strive together to improve the quality of life for communities across Pennsylvania.

May 6, 2008: STUDENTS4GIVING 2008-2009 Request for Proposals: Due Friday, June 20th

Campus Compact and the Fidelity® Charitable Gift Fund are delighted to announce the 2008-2009  Students4Giving Request for Proposals to educate and inspire a new generation of philanthropists in a new era of giving. The Students4Giving initiative will provide colleges and universities with the educational resources and initial funding to engage students in strategic grant making activities within the context of community-based learning. Campus Compact member colleges and universities are invited to respond to this Request for Proposals to be eligible to participate in Students4Giving as one of ten new programs located throughout the country. Each participating school will be allocated $15,000 in assets earmarked exclusively for charitable purposes which will be managed through a Giving Account®, a donor-advised fund at the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund. Participating programs will also receive additional funds for administrative support. Proposals must be received by Campus Compact by 5:00 p.m. EST Friday, June 20, 2008.
